Meet Jake

After years of management and customer service in the coffee industry, Jake needed a career change. We weren’t quite sure where he’d fit in when we initially brought him on, but his attention to detail and precision quickly made him an invaluable team member. Well, it turns out he likes writing and research a great deal, so he ended up taking charge of SEO and product copy.

In his spare time, Jake likes to work on any one of his many hobbies and pastimes. That includes, but is not limited to, crafting guitar pedals, making music, practicing competitive video games, skateboarding poorly, reading novels, complaining about writers who refuse to use the Oxford Comma, or collecting excessive amounts of vinyl records. He has two cute cats, Alucard and Loki, that he and Ashley adopted off the street. Did we mention he’s an absolute diva? No seriously, he’s the most extra person we know.

Q. What is your position at Art of Skincare?

A. Digital Director

Q. What’s your daily skin routine like?

A. I start with Sorella Apothecary’s Orange You Jelly Cleanser, then I spritz a little bit of their Watermelon Mint Hydrating Mist onto my face if I’m feeling a little too dry out the gate. Next I apply a little Sorella Apothecary Pomegranate Acai Antioxidant Serum and top it off with their Daily Greens Moisturizer. Finally, I add a little touch of Rhonda Allison’s Drop of Essence Hydration Drops! If I’m going outside, I’ll apply either some Sorella Apothecary Quench & Protect or a little Rhonda Allison eZinc Protection Cream for that SPF protection. I usually just do that once a day when I wake up, but if I’ve had a hectic or dirty day, I’ll do an evening reset too!

Q. What are your favorite/Holy Grail skincare products?

A. Lowkey, any nice & all natural SPF. Even forgetting sunburns, who wants all the long-term skin damage or skin cancer?

Q. What are your skincare concerns?

A. Occasionally having teensy breakouts or (ever since moving to Sacramento) my skin drying out due to the heat. That really was never a problem in the Bay Area.

Q. Where is your dream vacation spot?

A."Restless nights in Tokyo Wanna hear all the sounds and see all the sights From the Champs-Élysées to the Gundam Cafe Gonna eat so much fish, I think I'm gonna be sick Gonna blow all my cash on anime (Yes!) Don't try to stop me 'cause I'm over 9000 Just point me to the pachinko machines I think I'm Kenshiro, I think that I'm Goku Can I just stay one more day?” -Thundercat

Q. Coffee or tea? And why?

A. Coffee. I love tea, but I worked in Coffee for about 4 years and have been to Honduras to visit farms and spend time with the people who produced the coffee we bought. Coffee can be so, so much more than people understand.

Q. When you were little, what did you want to be?

A. Godzilla. Literally Godzilla. Shoutouts to Mothra though.

Q. What would your last meal be?

A. Definitely a shared meal of musakhan and knafeh for desert.

Q. What’s your go-to midnight snack?

A. Definitely pub cheese with jalapenos.

Q. What’s your biggest guilty pleasure?

A. Sugary cocktails, you know, Pina Coladas, Chi-Chis, Midori Sours, Purple People Eaters… I can’t help it, they taste so good.

Q. What’s your go-to karaoke song?

A. Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division or Eat Men Eat by black midi

Q. What three things would you have on a desert island?

A. A fully loaded music player, headphones, and a Nintendo Switch.
