The Best Face Cleansers For Your Skin Type and Concerns

If you want great-looking healthy skin, it all starts here! Did you know that most people under-cleanse and over-moisturize? If you want to get the most from your valuable skincare routine, start by prepping your skin with the right facial cleanser for your skin concerns. Cleansed skin is more healthy and hydrated because it drinks in more nutrients!

For personalized attention and guidance with selecting the right cleanser or skincare products for your skin needs, I recommend our online consultation. If you'd like to select products on your own, here are the facial cleansers that I most often recommend per skin type and concern.

Dry and sensitive or sensitized skin, aged and thin skin:

Rhonda Allison Foaming Peptide Cleanser – With natural goat milk and foaming peptides from amaranth, this face cleanser dissolves surface residues and is gentle enough to use post-peel. In spite of its name, this cleanser does not bubble-up. Light scent.

NeoGenesis Jelly Cleanser – Calms and soothes the skin while gently cleansing and removing makeup, dirt, and excess oil. Boosted with lactic acid to gently remove dry, dull skin cells while hydrating the skin. No scent.

Rosacea or skin prone to redness:

Hale & Hush Quiet Wash – Visibly calms reactive skin, reduces redness and discomfort while decreasing skin sensitivity with gentle cleansing action. Dry skin types like to mix this face wash with Rhonda Allison Foaming Peptide Cleanser. No scent.

Le Mieux Peptide Foam Cleanser – One of our most luxurious feeling cleansers, this face wash is fortified with proteins that soothe and calm redness. This is our best cleanser for removing makeup. It effortlessly clears away oil without increasing dryness. Skin is left soft and supple, less reactive, and well-hydrated. Light scent.

Skin prone to flaking:

Visual Changes Ultra Gentle Enzyme Cleanser – Natural fruit enzymes from pineapple and papaya gently digest away dry skin flakes and cellular debris, leaving the skin soft and well hydrated. Natural herbal scent.

Oily skin and sensitive skin types:

Sorella Lychee Willow Bark Deep Clean - This facial cleanser dissolves dead skin cells while treating post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Willow bark extract and berry extracts diminish fine lines and wrinkles soften as rough, dull skin is gently removed. Smells great!

Acne-prone skin:

Bion Bacteriostat (normal to dry) and Antibacterial Cleanser (normal to oily skin) are our two favorites for treating acne. Boosted with natural ingredients and botanicals, such as turmeric, that are anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and hormone balancing. These cleansers have a fresh herbal scent.

Face Reality Mandelic Wash – In the battle against shaving bumps and folliculitis and post pimple dark spots, this face wash stands head and shoulders above the rest. L. Mandelic acid is antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, and brightening. No scent.

Blackhead-prone skin:

Le Mieux Exfoliating Cleansing Gel – This deep pore cleansing gel is a favorite for our clients with oily skin or combination skin that tends toward saggy or clogged pores. Boosted with the naturally exfoliating lactic and salicylic acids to clear congested pores and smooth skin texture and reduce dark spots. Botanicals such as arnica, sage, and cinnamon provide antiseptic benefits while calming stressed skin. Light scent.

Visual Changes Ultra Gentle Enzyme Cleanser (also listed above) is the best blackhead cleanser for normal to dry skin types.

Skin Script Glycolic Cleanser mixed with Skin Script Pomegranate Cleanser is the perfect recipe to use before performing gentle extractions. Glycolic acid really is the best AHA for removing blackheads. Learn more here. >>>

Normal skin and healthy aging clients:

Rhonda Allison Pumpkin Cleanser – Natural pumpkin boosts this face cleanser with naturally occurring beta carotene, vitamin A and lactic acid for a powerful antioxidant boost. Ginger, clove, and cinnamon provide antioxidant protection along with the most amazing aromatic experience. I mix this cleanser with Sorella Apricot Mango Cleansing Milk in the evening. The scent alone provides me with much-needed self-care at the end of the day.

Sorella Orange You Jelly Cleanser – One cause of premature aging and dark pigmentation is inflammation. Orange You Jelly addresses premature aging concerns with turmeric root (a powerful anti-inflammatory), neem leaf extract (improves skin clarity and brightens while reducing the production of melanin), green tea (potent antioxidant protection), honey (improves moisture restoration, rich antioxidant, and naturally antibacterial), and essential oils such as neroli (conditions the skin and reduces redness).

All skin types that are alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) sensitive:

Those who don't like to or are unable to use acids on their skin will love our facial cleansers containing zeolite. Zeolite acts like a magnet, drawing impurities out of the pores. Find zeolite in AnteAGE Cleanser and in Rhonda Allison Citrus Gel Cleanser (this one is particularly loved by our teen clients).

For makeup removal and the eye area:

If you’d like to remove makeup without the use of a cleanser, Jane Iredale’s Magic Mitt is a popular item that removes makeup with only water. This is especially enjoyed by our acne-prone clients.

The best-loved cleansers for the eye area are Le Mieux Peptide Foam, Rhonda Allison Foaming Peptide Cleanser (which doesn’t really form a foam), and Skin Script Charcoal Clay Cleanser. If you’d prefer a cleansing pad, I recommend the Michele Corley Botanical Wipes. All of these are effective makeup removers and gentle on the eye area.
