It can be easy to think you don't need an eye cream because you already use face lotion, or because you do not have eye wrinkles yet, but that would be a mistake. Eye cream should be an essential part of everyone's skin care routine and here's why.
The skin around your eye is thinner and more sensitive than the rest of your face and thus can be more easily damaged. For this reason, chances are the first wrinkle you see on your face as you get older will be around your eye area. As with most things, it is much easier to prevent future damage to your skin than it is to repair it later on. Using an eye cream early on (as well as protecting your eyes from the sun and not smoking) can help prevent increased eye wrinkles and bags later on.
It may seem like eye cream is not much different from moisturizers that are used on the rest of the face, and using moisturizer may seem sufficient to keep the eye area from wrinkling or puffing. However, eye creams do have special properties that make them worthwhile. Eye creams are formulated specifically to be used on the sensitive skin around the eyes where as lotions are not and often contain ingredients that are irritating or flat out damaging to your eyes. Many lotions specify to avoid the eye area for this reason. Eye creams also contain stronger and more targeted ingredients meant specifically for addressing dark circles and puffiness where as lotions do not. Eye creams are much more effective at addressing and preventing aging around the eyes than a face lotion.
How to choose the right eye cream for you!
Alright, so now that you know the importance of using eye cream, lets look at which ones are right for you. If you have never used eye cream before, I usually recommend starting with Bion Youthful Eyes. All ages like this light cream and it is acne safe.
If dark circles are bothering you try using Skin Script Peptide Eye Serum alone or under Sorella Yogurt Kale Eye Concentrate, or use Hale & Hush Eye Mouse, our favorite eye cream for those that are often sleep deprived.
If pesky fine lines have begun to make an appearance try Rhonda Allison 3-N-1 Peptide Eye Cream or Sorella Yogurt Kale Eye Concentrate.
When fine lines deepen, a bit more intervention is usually required. Take a look at Le Mieux Eye Wrinkle Corrector for the AM and Hale & Hush Brilliant Eye & Lip Serum for the PM.
Puffy "allergy" eyes often need a bit of lifting. Our go-to in this situation is Sorella Cucumber Eye Gel or Rhonda Allison Eye Lift.
If quick transformation is called for, do not forget the amazing TGF B Eye Masks from Le Mieux. These masks work wonders for sagging eye tissue and deep lines.
Finally, when spending time outdoors, don’t forget to apply J. LeClerc Base Coat. This little stick can be used, safely, around the eye area and under makeup. I also use it too touch up, over the top of my makeup. Remember, 90% of premature aging is caused by sun exposure!
