Aloe Vera

Few ingredients put in quite as much work as Aloe Vera. More subtle than glamorous, this workhorse is a complementary active ingredient as opposed to the star of the formula. Aloe vera is a succulent plant, whose scientific name is Aloe Barbadensis. It soothes skin and helps a little bit with wound healing when applied topically. Most aloe products use a processed aloe vera gel, but you can even use the fresh aloe vera plant to treat minor sunburns and scrapes.

Natural Soothing

Aloe vera has soothing and anti-inflammatory effects in skincare products. Beyond that, the clear gel from aloe vera has a wonderful texture and helps emulsify moisturizers & creams. These are the main benefits of aloe vera: soothing effects & a great feeling on skin. Aside from allergic reactions, there are no known side effects of aloe when used topically.

One of the most important things about aloe vera is that it is non-acneic. This means it hydrates and soothes skin without causing breakouts.

Aloe contains anthraquinone which is a laxative. You can find processed aloe vera foods that have all toxicity removed, but most skincare products haven't had this substance removed. So, just don't eat your skincare products. Shouldn't be too hard, right?

Our Favorite Aloe Vera Skincare

To be honest, so many of our products have Aloe Vera. Here are some notable highlights:

  • Skin Script Light Aloe Moisturizer - Another soothing & hydrating gel that won't cause acne. This is great for oily skin types looking to plump and moisturize without making their skin congested.
  • Sorella Apothecary Daily Greens Moisturizer - Oily skin types who prefer a creamy moisturizer that won't trigger acne will love this one. This is possibly the most popular moisturizer amongst the team at Art of Skin Care. Oh, it's also packed with tons of antioxidants.
  • Michele Corley Rejuvenating Peptide & Stem Cell Facial Serum - This serum is so potent it's almost unbelievable. Peptides, panthenol, stem cells, hyaluronic acid, and allantoin are all held together by aloe vera juice for a serum that feels great and makes your skin look great.
